These are the original consulting rooms of Dr Brewer; the gentleman doctor who had Annesley House constructed in 1878.
Dr Brewer was one of Portland’s first doctors and hospital surgeons and his consulting rooms were built to reflect his high station in Portland society. These rooms have been painstakingly restored to their former glory and now provides some of the finest Portland accommodation. This fully serviced three bedroom apartment is perfect for family holidays or for corporate travellers.
As a guest in Dr Brewer’s rooms, you will experience the charm and originality of the 19th century combined with the luxury of the 21st century. The original kitchen has been fully remodelled to what one guest described as “a kitchen you can play master chef in.” Despite its modernity, the kitchen maintains many of the original features and furnishings. The perceptive guest will notice a bell hanging on the west wall which was used to summon servants relaxing in the kitchen. But don’t worry the bell has not rung for many years so nothing will interrupt your well earned stay in Portland!
In fact, there is no better way to rest than to make full use of the enormous claw foot bath in the sunlit bathroom. The original bathtub is fitted with a shower canopy and is perfect for soaking the hours away!
As sleep beckons and you make your way to the master bedroom, be sure to examine the photograph of Dr Brewer in the hallway and the curious collection of medicine bottles discovered during the restoration of Annesley House. The master bedroom itself boasts an interesting portico and a door through which the patients would have entered. But enough history, the best thing about this spacious room is the original cast iron double bed. It’s just what the doctor ordered for a perfect stay in Portland!
We can’t help but feel that if Dr Brewer was to walk through the door today he would agree it is truly the finest accommodation in Portland on offer.
